One
O God,
Grant us a love not just for
all people in general—
which is easy to claim but
difficult if not impossible
to do anything about—
and not just for
every person that we encounter—
most of whom will come into
our orbit briefly and then continue
on their way—
but for the one person who
is right there in front of us,
who is or who needs to be a fixture in our life
and whose love we need as much as
she or he needs our love.
Amen.
